Concrete in Monument
Monument is a home rule town on the southern slope of the Palmer Divide in northern El Paso County, at close to 7,000 feet. Its population grew by nearly 90 percent between 2010 and 2020, so many homes have builder-installed driveways and patios that are now old enough to show joint cracks and settling. The higher elevation brings more snow and longer winters than central Colorado Springs, which makes air-entrained concrete and good drainage especially important. Building permits run through the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department; check with the Town of Monument about work in the street right-of-way.

Before you call
- Photograph cracks, heaved or sunken sections and drainage problems, with something in the shot for scale
- Measure the area and note whether a concrete truck can reach it or the pour will need a pump or buggies
- Ask your city, town or El Paso County whether the driveway apron, curb cut or sidewalk needs a permit, and check HOA or metro district rules
- Know where sprinkler lines, utilities and any septic system run, and make sure Colorado 811 is contacted before digging
